Hi! I'm Matt Purland. I'm a qualified English and ESL teacher from the UK. I'm a native speaker from Derby, in the midlands, and I'm here to help you to improve your English skills!
I've been working full-time as an English teacher since 2002 - both in the classroom and online. I've taught many online classes on Skype and Learngle. I'm a fully qualified English teacher, with qualifications gained in the UK, including the Certificate in Education postgraduate certificate, a BA Honours Degree in Drama, and the Trinity College TESOL Certificate, which is like the Cambridge CELTA - among others.
I'm also an experienced course writer and writer of materials for teaching and learning English. I started my own website English Banana dot com in 2002, and today it's one of the most popular resource sites online, with around 25 million page views per year.

I’m an American English teacher and have been teaching for over 13 years. I’ve taught English online, to hundreds of men and women all over the world. I’ve been researching for a better way to teach English to people who didn’t grow up speaking English and I have discovered the radically new and different system called “Confident English.” I like the Confident English online virtual classroom teaching program, and you will too!
Unlike many so-called "online English tutors," who only chat, my teaching staff and I actually TEACH you with a planned English language curriculum. It is unique and it is designed to take beginners - or advanced English-speakers - from where they are, to where they wish to be, in the shortest time possible. We also try to make learning English FUN, and not so boring!
In the beginning, we take you back to being a child, to re-learn what is always a deficiency in Foreign-trained 2nd Language English speakers. We start with VERY BASIC English. We focus on the SOUNDS of English; enunciation and phonics. We have found that the single most limiting factor in 2nd language English speakers is the inability to speak - to sound - to enunciate in a way that is understandable. (You probably learned from teachers who spoke with a thick accent when they spoke English.) Listening is also a problem because your listening is not tuned to the right phonics - 2nd language speakers aren't taught to use - and hear - correct sounds and enunciation in spoken English.
After mastering English phonics and enunciation, we then focus on teaching "street English." The second most limiting factor is the TEFL / ESL "school book" learning, leaving 2nd language English speakers with a fine English vocabulary which will not work in a casual English conversation at work or on the street. We use and teach you everyday American English language, idioms, phrasal verbs, figures-of-speech, and other non-school-book language.
We have found that the CONFIDENT ENGLISH program is The Key To Excellent English, and English language fluency, which is your most important English speaking goal. To be fluent in English, you have to use a lot of understandable and repetitive listening to clearly spoken English, without an accent. That is the ONLY way! To be a FANTASTIC English speaker, you have to learn English with your ears, not with your eyes. In other words, you must listen. Your ears are your key to excellent speaking!!!

I am a native American English speaker from Boston, Massachusetts, but I have no regional accent. I speak American English natively and clearly. I have more than fifteen years of teaching experience. Most of my experience has been teaching English as a second language. I am also fluent in Spanish. I teach English to students from many foreign countries, My students are all ages and abilities. I concentrate on improving the confidence level of my students so they can communicate in English effectively and understand their English-speaking co-workers. I also work with strong English speakers who are concentrating on accent reduction. This is a critical finishing touch when my students are working professionals who are working in an English-speaking work environment.
When tutoring adult professionals and when teaching business English, I modify my teaching materials to use industry-specific terms that students will encounter in their work place. In addition, we work diligently to perfect each student’s pronunciation and fluency in English, so they are easily understood when speaking with other native speakers. The method of repetition or echoing in teaching is particularly effective in accomplishing a natural sounding cadence of speech, allowing our students to concentrate on communicating their ideas in English or giving a successful presentation in English.
I customize each student’s Internet online English learning program to accomplish their goals, including assisting with business English, project plans, résumés, accent reduction, job interview practice, or other presentations in English. I am a native speaking English teacher from New York, USA, but I have no regional accent. I speak American English natively and clearly. I am also fluent in Spanish.
